CAÑÓN DEL SUMIDERO Y CHIAPA DE CORZO

This tour takes you from San Cristóbal de las Casas to one of Chiapas' most breathtaking natural landscapes: the Cañón del Sumidero. Aboard a boat, you cruise along the río Grijalva for about 2 hours, surrounded by massive rock walls rising from the water.

The rocks forming the canyon walls began taking shape around 136 million years ago from sediment and calcium minerals — evidence that this region of Chiapas was once covered by a shallow sea.
